An early help assessment (EHA) sets the actions to be taken to help the child and its family

You should undertake an EHA if you feel that a child or young person may need additional support from more than one service.

You can download the Early Help Application here

The Early Help Toolkit

The Early Help Toolkit

Access the Early Help Toolkit here

It includes information about:

  • Undertaking an Assessment
  • Forms, leaflets and letters
  • Step between social care and early help
  • Thresholds for Intervention

The Process

The EHA is not just a form; it's a process which allows professionals, the child and family to:

  • Assess needs
  • Identify services who can support
  • Check that needs are being met
The EHA should be completed by the professional who knows ‘the child the best’ and with the family, child or young person

Read more about the process here

Early Help Surgery

You should book on the surgery if you feel no progress is being made or need extra help.

You must get consent from the family to discuss at the Early Help Surgery.

What happens at the surgery?

  • The EHA will be reviewed
  • A plan of support with clear actions to help the family will be agreed

When is it?

  • Every Wednesday between 2pm and 5 pm
